Sometimes when I'm hungry I make myself some stove-top popcorn using popcorn oil, butter, salt, and of course: popcorn. While the ingredients alone can end up costing a bit, I find that after I make a few batches, it levels out. If you go to walmart, you can easily get a large bag of popcorn (I mean BIG. Bigger than MY FACE!) for about a dollar.
But when you go to the movies... $6.50 for a large popcorn. $5.00 For a Large Soda (And believe me, you want the large. There's no way you're paying $4 for the equivalent to a small at any other establishment. Candy? Never cheaper than $2. Going to the movies costs more than going to dinner with my girlfriend. Dinner and a movie? Forget it.
If we were to calculate how much it would cost for 2 people going to the movies and getting a popcorn, 2 drinks, and a candy it would look something like this:
2 tickets - $17.50 ($8.75 each)
1 popcorn - $6.00
2 drinks - $10 ($5 each)
1 candy - $2
Grand Total: $35.50
What about renting a new release?
1 DVD or VHS $3.50 (That's what it costs me)
1 Pizza (Little Ceasars $5 Large Pepperoni)
1 2-Liter Bottle Pepsi $1
Grand Total: $9.50
Substitute Buffalo wings for pizza:
Buffalo wings (Applebees $15, 30 wings)
Grand Total $19.50
Substitute A College Education for Buffalo Wings
Grand Total: Priceless
My point here is simple. While theaters currently have the monopoly of food in the theater, consumers will soon revolt, and all will have to change!
Now, as I started to write this I quickly found an article explaining why popcorn costs so much. This takes the funk out of my argument.. I quit.
This explains popcorn prices.
Fact still remains. WE WILL REVOLT! Power to the people.
Man I suck.
Stumble this article.

flushmaster2000 @ 12/04/04 "the reason that popcorn costs so much is that movie theaders make no money from tickets. that all goes to the destributer and the studio. so the only place for a theater to turn a prophet is the concessions stand."
Kallie @ 12/04/04 "No shit, Paul..that was in the article that he linked to. Though I still think renting a movie is better for a few reasons: couches are more comfortable than those seats. There are no annoying 12 year olds. And of course, it's cheap."
AngelSanctuary @ 12/07/04 "wow...you typed 'poopcorn' i never eaten poopcorn
