Karma, Fate, Luck, and Lower Class

Once upon a time, some rich guy decided to invent "karma". He was friends with another rich guy who invented the term "fate." Of course, his rich brother was collecting royalties on the term "luck". What's the connection here? They were all rich as junk.

Now, why did the first man decide to invent karma with his friends? I'll give you some insight, it's a story that repeats itself in many forms throughout history, and even today:

Man #2 says to Man #1: Geez, we're filthy rich.. How are we going to keep all this wealth away from the common man?

Man #1 thinks for a moment, and then comes up with a brilliant idea: Let's make up a way of life.. no even better.. A RELIGION of sorts! This philosphy will directly imply that becomming successful has to do with your balance of good deeds vs bad deeds. And that anybody who is evil will certainly get what's coming to them, and of course, vice versa. All the poor saps will go out, try to spread some hippie love, and hold out their hands waiting for a paycheck. They'll see people like us climbing the corporate ladder, but they won't fight us, because they see the nasty things we do to get so filthy rich, and they'll just wait for karma to come get us.

And so began the great divide between the upper and lower classes - without the lower class even noticing, because they were too involved with the concept of karma, and all the joy they should be receiving eventually.

Now, before anybody goes all hindu on me, Karma carries the concept that it determines your place in the next life in religions that believe in reincarnation. However, as we all know, the term karma has carried its concept across to other belief systems, and it's been accepted by western interpretation as more of an instant or delayed payback system. Deal with it, you hippies.

Back on topic now... Every so often, I'll overhear somebody say the term "Wow, you're so lucky!" This term often times is used by somebody who we now know will never be successful for the rest of his/her life. We know this because of the term "luck," karma's evil brother. Unlike karma, luck can just pop up anywhere for no reason (except maybe a lucky charm!) and can infect just about anybody, dispite worthiness, or lack there of, for said luck. It's almost like a cover up to keep evil people in line.

"Damn I'm too evil, karma hates me, I've got nothing in my favor... except luck! Luck can strike at anytime! I can't wait!"

What never crosses the mind of the complimentor is the fact that what they're complimenting was not a result of luck, but instead a very calculated combination of effort and strategy. Sure a rich guy is lucky to be rich.. or is he brilliant and actually did something with his life to become rich? It's funny how the term "lucky" just rolls right off the tongue. It's as if it was ingrained into our heads at a very early age...interesting.

Fate plays along these lines exactly - except instead of success and fortune, fate usually pertains to matters of the heart. (I said usually, yes it can also pertain to success). Any way you look at it, it still screams the same thing:

What needs to happen will happen, no effort required on your part.

That's another way of saying:

You think you'll some day stumble across a money making idea that makes you millions, just like the lottery. So long as you believe this, you'll never actually try and you will continue to be the lower class. We have developed this elaborate psychological tactic to ensure we continue to be the top 1% and you continue to be the scum of the earth, thank you.

Guess what, I'm going to reveal to you the biggest secret that rich people don't want you to know:

The magic billion dollar idea that makes you instantly rich is a farse. The concept is made up and publicized on tv, to give you the feeling that, hey, it could happen to you. The people who are rich took a crappy ass idea, and sold it like nobody's ever sold before. They woke up every morning at 6 am, pushed it till 9pm, and did that again, day after day. Then they made money - that they reinvested. They made their money work for them - started making a passive income. They built an empire, but it came from hard work. No doubt about it, it had nothing to do with a billion dollar idea. And it had nothing to do with luck, and it had nothing to do with karma, and nothing to do with fate.

I believe Riev from the gripe corner said it best:

"If you really think people that do good things get rewarded in the end, I'll see you in 20 years, working for me, and getting paid in dog food."

"Generally speaking, -any- American can be a millionaire, at least in assets. Money aside, life is a social war. Like you said Fred, it isn't luck or Karma, but a well designed strategy and effort to shape how people see you."
