Feel-Good Feature #1: The Whole Famn Damily!
The holiday season is finally here. I, personally, was blest with four thanksgiving dinners in the last week. I stuffed myself silly, which might have something to do with my general feeling of goodwill. And turkey contains dopamine, which is probably why I’m not bothered by the fact that I gained almost ten pounds this week and dryland training starts on Monday.
I had an excellent vacation, spending most of it cooking, talking or playing with my family and friends. Or walking around the Steeplegate mall dressed as Jay of the dynamic Jay and Silent Bob duo. I got some fairly amusing stares and double takes. I’m sorry that I don’t have any way to share it with you. Maybe my parents will buy me a digital camera…that’d be nice…ok, enough dreaming.
We spent Thanksgiving itself with my maternal grandparents, which is always interesting because my grandmother becomes quite the shrew when she is stressed out or tired. Oops, did I say that out loud? After dinner, some of us went outside, some sat in front of the television, and the rest of us gathered around the piano to sing Christmas carols. An interesting tradition, the promise of this after dinner sing-along is the only way we can keep my mother from decorating the house and playing Christmas music starting in January. It’s a sickness, really.
The day after Thanksgiving we packed everything up and drove up to Vermont to visit with my paternal grandparents. The pond wasn’t quite frozen enough to skate, but there was plenty of snow to sled on, so the ten grandchildren had quite the time ruining the idyllic white blanket in their front yard. Well, nine grandchildren, one chose to stay at the University of Colorado over the break…but it’s not that big a deal, his sister brought her boyfriend, and he looks just like our truant student. So we just had to squint a little, and then it seemed as if everyone were present. And I’m sure the dopamine helped.
Tomorrow (or whenever I get a chance to post again) we shall return to our regularly scheduled diatribe.
